I am paralyzed and must use a dentist that takes my insurance AND folks that cannot transfer to their chair.
After a lot of phone calls I was assured by this 825 MLK office that they could take care of a few fillings and some X-rays. I showed up on time, spent 30 minutes filling out new patient paperwork and was wheeled back to a room that I almost could not fit through and wheeled up to a dental chair and asked to transfer over to it!!
I told the young lady that I could not transfer and that I was told that this office would not require it! It was then that one of the less than friendly office staff came and told me they would not be able to help me!!!! I was extremely upset and told them that I had waited 2 weeks for the visit and dealt with a horrible ride across town for nothing!!!
To make things worse, upon arriving home I got a notification from my bank that Great Expressions had withdrawn from my account $47 for X-rays!!!! The nerve I tried to call them but had to leave the first of 14 messages over the next week trying to get my money back with not a single returned call!! And on top of it all they left a message letting me know when my next appt was in May!!! Unbelievable
I called a had to leave a threatening voice mail and within an hour my $$$ was refunded!!

Wanda, the office “Beootch” withheld MY X-rays when another dentist requested them!!! She refused to provide the X-rays I had paid for! She obviously has the office staff terrorized, avoid this woman and this office at all costs!!

I wish I would have read the reviews before I went there but do NOT ever use this place save yourself some heart ache.

They are now called "Great Expressions," just so everyone knows it is the same place.

My wife and I went here for about 2 years after moving to Tampa as it is close to our house. From the beginning I didn't like it.

First, it's impossible to schedule appointments at reasonable times and they never answer the phone. If they do, they almost always immediately put you on hold, where you'll stay for a good 15 minutes or so until they remember you're there.

Second, the staff aren't friendly and the waiting area is not particularly comfortable - it's very strangely arranged. I think the arrangement is designed to maximize the number of people they can see as there are dozens and dozens of waiting chairs. The place is also not very nice - as though it hasn't been updated in at least 20 to 25 years.

Third, they are the masters of upselling you on stuff. From our very first visit they tried to sell us additional treatments like anti-bacterial washes that most dentists consider completely unnecessary. They also do it in a way that makes it hard to say no as the dentist will come in (when you actually get to see a dentist) and say you need this and it will already be on your bill, but they will only tell you after you agree to it that it is not covered by insurance, which is a good hint that it is unnecessary. They also will have to reprint your bill to remove it, which they do so grudgingly.

Fourth, they recommend unnecessary procedures. My wife never gets cavities, but somehow they managed to find 3 cavities on her first visit, despite her having no pain or discomfort. One of the cavities resulted in them drilling too deep and exposing the root. They claimed they had to, and opted not to recommend a root canal but instead just put in a filling. That lasted all of two weeks before the pain was so bad that my wife had to get an emergency root canal, costing us thousands of dollars. And the people at Childers/Great Expressions denied any responsibility for having caused the problem. They also told me, just before we switched to our new dentist, that I had three fillings that needed to be replaced as they were chipped around the edges. Two are deep fillings, which would have meant crowns. When I went to my new dentist, she said nothing about the fillings (our new dentist is great!). In short, they recommend treatments that they should not recommend and the purpose is just for them to make an extra buck.

Fifth, you rarely see the dentist, and it's never the same dentist. In fact, I'm not sure I actually saw a real dentist the entire time I went here. If it is just a cleaning, the dentist usually doesn't stop by. If they want to sell you something, then the dentist shows up and tells you that you need it.

Sixth, the hygenists are gruff and definitely not PC. I'm not a religious person, but perfectly tolerant of those who are. Well, two of the hygenists tried to push their religion on me. Discussing religion is one thing; evangelizing something while you have a metal hook in there mouth and they can't respond is quite another!!!

In summary, there is nothing about Childers/Great Expressions that makes them recommendable. They are cheapskates, upsellers, dishonest, unkind, and cold. If at all possible, avoid these people!!!
